so youre saying they should either have the costumes for free to everyone or not in the game at all?
wow that makes total sense.... hell why should people have an optional choice to support the people that make a game theyve enjoyed for so long. thats absurd

More than anything else: Content. I paid for every campaign + eotn (more than once actually). I bought the BMP. Was not a lot of content, but it was something playable. Even paid for 2 character slots so I could have one of each class and a PvP toon. Never regretted those purchases (except the char slots are kinda steep. See below).
For some reason anet seems to have it's mind wrapped around certain numeric breakpoints, and it leads, as far as I'm concerned, to most of the stuff in the store being overpriced.
$5 for a level-up aide (igneous stone)? Should be a dollar, max.
$10 for 20 slots of storage? We should get all 4 pages for that.
$10 for 5 makeovers? Ok, my monk is ugly enough that I'd pay $2 for one, but I won't pay for 5 at that price.
Don't even get me started on the ridiculousness that is the "ubermakeover" or whatever the hell it's called.
Arenanet/NCSoft (whoever is making the pricing decisions) are missing the "micro" part of "microtransaction" when you can get actual full games for the cost of any one of these "upgrades" on similar systems (XBL, WiiShop, etc...)

Not in the game at all.
And instead, they could have released the december skill balance.

I'd get one if there would be a way to buy one without linking a GW account and NCsoft account...

oh because adding 2 costumes in the game prevented their skill balance.
Yeah that makes total sense.
And if i cant have it or wont get it then no one should have it. amirite?

This is just a nice little luxury item that has no purpose but to make people happy with a nice new costume.
Anet doesnt even come close to freely attaching fees to updates.
|
Anet doesn't come near for charging for updates, yet.. with an emphasis on yet.
What seems like an optional update to some people seems like an attempt to see how far they can push things before they move on to the full blown micro transaction model and what better way to push it by moving people onto it without them even knowing.

Yes i'm an idiot but answer me this where's all this "support" people are giving to anet by buying this vanity stuff?
The time between updates seems to be getting greater and greater and the quality of some skill balances is laughable at best.

Why should people have to pay for crap in GW to fund GW2 unless Anet made a classic mistake and diverted too much manpower from their current primary product to make the new one, leading to most of their efforts going into vaporware while the thing they have that actually EXISTS and could actually MAKE MONEY dies. Generally the death occurs before the new release is done and it's either pushed out early (with associated epic fail) or never gets released at all.
You've got to keep a balance in software development. They didn't.
(Or did they actually think that enough people are gonna pay $10 for costumes to actually make anything more than a blip on the bottom line? I'll be surprised if they even break even for the development time.)

I honestly would not mind paying for makeovers, costumes, and even the extra storage IF I DID NOT HAVE TO LINK MY ACCOUNT TO A MASTER PLAY NC ACCOUNT.
I would be more than happy to buy a key but I'm not chancing PlayNC - just too dodgy in my book.

I rather pay that 10 bucks to help a child in need in africa than to get two armors.
It's not about the money itself but the value you get from it. I'm more than willingly to sponsor Anet (which I did in the past) if it doesn't get ridiculous anyway. Might as well ask their bank account number and make deposits without anything in return. Charity for Anet.
You fools.

Guild Wars 1 is dead i guess you must know this
so obviously most of their money isnt going to constantly updating the game to fit a few QQers on forums
You need to understand that MMO developers need to make the game the best to fit ALL the players. not just the 2% that QQ on the forums.
While from being on guru it may seem like a vast majority hate the game at the current state that is not true.
Anet doesn't see a staggering amount of pugs being able to do runs together with SF and then read a couple posts from some naggy players and decide they must instantly nerf SF.
Just like Anet doesnt read that a small amount of the population hates the new costumes and decides to Refund everyone and remove it from the game.
And above all that Anet has chosen to divert most of its money from a Dead Game to GW2. that makes sense no?
especially if GW2 is f2p they are going to need all the outside funding they can get

Players have asked for this a long time.
I'm happy with this update. Now if only I could have gotten the older masks..

Same. Something about the holiday activities makes the player base suck, too much time spent farming.
I knowingly missed quite a few masks just b/c they were useless and I was too bored to play at the time.
Joke's on us.
